Jegede Temitope Emmanuel, an NYSC member serving in Kogi State, has urged students to develop their talents and skills to bring out the best in them.
In a chat with this reporter, Jegede stated that he has embarked on a personal community development service, an initiative of the NYSC, across Lokoja, Kogi state capital.
He said his desire to aid students start their journey in the world of information communication technology informed his personal community development service (CDS) in teaching basic computer skills.
The world is fast-changing in the hands of computers and the internet, hence, there is a need to equip this generation, especially undergraduates and secondary school students, with skills that will make them fit into the market space.
“The acquisition of these skills will make undergraduates employable keep them up-to-date in the knowledge of computers and artificial intelligence.
“I organised free training on mobile application development, website development and graphics design and Microsoft packages. I also organised free training on chess for students.
“To ensure continuity, I facilitated the availability of hard drives, computers, keyboards, and mouse for the ICT laboratories.
“During the course of the coaching, I found out that many of the students lack basic computer skills. Many of them were setting their hands on a computer system for the first time. Hence, the training was not as easy as I envisioned it to be. Nevertheless, I was able to teach them basic skills to them and aid them start their journey in the world of information communication technology,” he said.
Jegede, KG/19B/0002, appealed to parents, guardians, governments and other relevant stakeholders to join hands together to ensure that these talents, skills, dreams, hopes and visions were not sidelined or ignored.
