Cashew Farm Crisis: Senator Aidoko Appeals to Warring Communities in Dekina, Bassa

Senator Atai Aidoko Ali of Kogi East has decried the recent bloody clash between Igalas and Bassa Kwomus over cashew nuts harvest.
In a reaction to the crisis that led to loss of lives and properties, Aidoko warned that bloody clashed over natural endowment can incur God’s wrath.
He urged the people to celebrate rather than fighting each other over God-given cash commodities that is currently been used to mitigate the harsh economic problems peculiar to Kogi state.
He said the Igalas and Bassas have ancestral linkage that has kept them together over decades, adding that any attempt to rewrite the history of the area over mere natural endowment will not augur well for the existing peace, unity and brotherliness built overtime.
Senator Aidoko said the crises is uncalled for at a time when the cultural associations like the ICDA have just concluded awareness on the need to protect natural endowments along with battling with efforts of government to introduce anti-people policies ‎on these God-given commodities.
He said efforts will be made to liaise with appropriate federal agencies like NEMA to respond to the prevailing situation in the area as plans are in top gear for on the spot assessment by his office.
Aidoko expressed regrets on the nonchalant attitude of the state government and its agencies for failing to respond to such emergencies given the magnitude of destruction in the crisis. He said the state government has abandoned its statutory responsibilities by paying mere lip services to issues that boarders on people’s welfare.
