The federal government has disbursed more than N1.23 billion to 22,344 beneficiaries in Kogi State under its Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Programme, Mrs Falilat Abdulrasak, the Unit Head in the state has said.
Abdulrasak disclosed this on Tuesday at a three-day “Step-Down Training on Savings and Group Mobilisation (SGM)” in Lokoja for Cash Transfer Facilitators (CTFs) from nine local government areas in the state.
The CCT is one of the FG’s Social Investment Programmes, aim to reduce poverty by making welfare programs conditional upon the receivers’ actions. The government only transfers the money to persons who meet certain criteria.
Abdulrasak said a beneficiary got N5, 000 monthly stipend, saying a total of 22, 245 poor households across the 21 LGAs of Kogi, had received the sum of N1, 234, 615, 000 from Dec. 2016 till date.
“The CCT programme has recorded a huge success in Kogi as many of the beneficiaries have success stories of having their own small businesses, raise structure and improved well-being. We have seen transformation in their lives,” she said.
She noted that facilitators from 12 local government areas were previously trained on the SGM, while additional 81 facilitators from the remaining nine LGAs were being trained this time.
According to her, the training is to build human capacity of the CTFs to train the beneficiaries back in their communities to understand the process of savings, group mobilisation and formation.
“The CTFs will train the beneficiaries at the grassroots on how to save a little out of their stipends and invest the savings so as to be self-reliant.
“They will also be trained on how to mobilise economic asset and acquire more assets during the programme so as to have sources of economic livelihood to sustain them at the expiration of the programme,” she said.
Also, Malam Musa Danlami, a CCT desk officer in Bassa Local Government, commended the Federal Government for the initiative and the state government for sustaining the initiative and making the programme a reality.
Mr Tope David, another desk officer in Mopamuro LGA, said the training has empowered him with the requisite skills to guide and mentor the beneficiaries to save and invest their stipends wisely.
“We thank Federal Government for their impartiality about the CCT programme and for making it to get to the poorest people across the state,” David said.
