It is no longer news that Nigeria’s president, General Muhammadu Buhari has extended his stay-at-home order for another fourteen days. He was however emphatic with Lagos, Abuja and Ogun, Ekiti state included few hours later.
But while Nigerians struggle to accept the second order, we found it sanely to say the covid-19 pandemic is the least at the moment as Nigerians confront perpetual harassment from miscreants as a result of HUNGER.
The despicable measure of broad daylight robbery which has thrown citizens to the street in defence of possible attacks blends with pessimism that the worst looms. I don’t want to be sarcastic but to confront facts head on.
Buhari’s second order complement the existing priorities misplaced by unstructured Nation struggling to do the needful at a wrong time. As the popular African proverb says; its impossible to beat a child and tell him not to cry. Unemployment was an existing pandemic, it berthed HUNGER with close to 80% Nigerians who rarely foot 3 square meals a day cushioning the effects with mere jobs. And whether or not this is accepted, they must step out daily in order to keep the crumbs coming. Buhari on the other hand initiated his first and second order as president and commander-in-chief without a recuperative measure for these 80% Nigerians.
Consequently, few days to the announcement of the second order, Agege, Surulere and many other part of Lagos state went in chaos. Armed robbers now notify their victims before arrival. I witnessed a scene where 40 well armed robbers chased police into culverts at cement area of Lagos.
Residents on the other hand could not flee due to Baba’s no-movement-order. If you live or have ever been to Agege, you will understand better. The Nigerians in that part of the state are emotionally traumatized. The next meal is not so sure, yet the gripping fear of been attacked by the so called ONE MILLION GANGS remains a monumental lost of appetite. Rooms are empty but the people waits under a scotching sun for the arrival of the deadliest enemy- the one million gang. We were told that some monarchs (names withheld) are behind the illicit acts as those arrested are eventually released in the name of congested prison yard. Have you seen the kind of people we have as leaders in this country? Indeed, man is nothing without conscience.
But First, I ask General Buhari; is this how lockdown is been done in America, Italy, Germany etc? Why is the government being hypocritical, fighting an already defeated enemy instead of the ravaging Hunger? Yet, they shamelessly pretends about everything on the alter of falsehood.
You see, the worst day is here and everyone should get prepared. As soon as covid-19 is over, we face economic recession. That is if Lagosians survive the ongoing daylight attacks.
As a nation, how we found ourselves here is only known by the Almighty God. But if you ask me, this government is simply been greedy. If the treasury is empty that at least 100 million Nigerians can’t be given anything, the covid-19 donations running into billions of Naira would do justice.
Ironically, while the southwest faces lockdown enforcement, some selected villages in the north enjoys palliative. What a nation bereaved in hypocrisy.
I weep for Nigeria. Even the fools who imposed this government on us are in perpetual regret. Worst of all, in 2023, Nigerians will put behind all they are going through and queue behind them for reelection because money defines who gets what and not ideas.
We are cursed!!! And I am beginning to reason with the popular artist who said Nigerians deserve what is happening to them.
Meanwhile, General Buhari, the language is simple; Nigerians are hungry, and I joined my voice with the millions seeking justice on their behalf to say do something now or consider you orders as Rebel against humanity.
