The Media Advocacy West Africa Foundation (MAWA-Foundation) calls on Mr. Muhammadu Buhari-led government to leave its agricultural revolution propaganda and confronts the reality of food scarcity and high cost of food in the country, and begins to address them as they are leading to a near acute hunger in the country.
MAWA Foundation frowns at the Buhari government’s attitude of pushing the campaign of food sufficiency and agric revolution when in reality there is a huge shortage of food in the country with a high cost of food in the market across the nation.
We call on the Buhari government to immediately drop its propaganda on agric revolution and look into food scarcity and the high cost of food in the country and move to address the challenge.
Buhari government has over the last five years claimed to have achieved agricultural revolution and food sufficiency; this is not true as the reality in Nigeria at the moment shows that never in the history of Nigeria did the citizens experience this kind of high cost of food and food scarcity.
We wish to remind the Buhari government that a bag of rice now sells for N30k across the Nigerian states while in some states it sells for N50k.
Garri that is always regarded as food for the poor is no longer affordable with All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), warning that there will be a scarcity of garri because cassava farmers have since abandoned their farms.
Should the Buhari government does not know, many farmers in Nigeria, particularly in the northern part of the country have since abandoned their farms as a result of insecurity because they are been killed in their farms either by bandits or herdsmen.
We call on the Buhari government to immediately forget about the energy it puts in pushing the propaganda about agric revolution as his core achievement and begins to address food scarcity and the high cost of food which has become a major dent to his administration.
