In view of the fact that Owe dialect is gradually going into extinction due to parents’ carefree attitude and exposure to the outside world, an urgent move has been put in place to sustain the cultural resilience, ignite pride and proficiency in Owe adolescents living outside Kabba and in diaspora.

In order to arrest this rather unfortunate decline, a competition is being promoted by an Owe philanthropist of note through the LEWU FOUNDATION and the grand finale is scheduled for 26th December, 2024 in Kabba.

To make this dream a reality given its importance, a high- level committee has been set- up comprising of eminent personalities who have distinguished themselves in their various field of endeavours and of Owe descent. Members of the committee include Prof. Jide Jimoh, Brig. Gen. Olabode Ojuoloruntaiye and Mr. Funsho Famodile.

As part of the plan for the event, application has begun via a call for participation. Adolescents who reside outside Kabba and in diaspora are eligible to apply and contest after proper screening.

They are to send their applications for participation to owelanguageproject@gmail.com

Successful applicants’ names shall be released on December 15th 2024 after the meeting of the panel of judges. The contest will subsequently take place in front of a live audience.

The mode of competition would include but not limited to –

† Songs in Owe language

† Proverbs and wise sayings

† Owe culture

† Owe Orthography

† Festivals and Seasons

In order to give the event a lasting impression and make it memorable, a dinner party is in the offing immediately after the award where only Owe songs will be played and danced to.

As a form of reward for displaying exceptional excellence, the winner of the contest is expected to go home with a handsome amount of #100,000, while the runner- up and 2nd runner- up will receive #50,000 & #25,000 respectively.

Every contestant will also smile to the bank with #10,000 each.
