Street beggars in Lokoja, Kogi State capital have expressed readiness to relocate to their states of origin.
This was made known by the Chief of Beggars in Lokoja, Ibrahim Muhammed during the extensive sensitization embarked upon by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Fatima Kabir Buba.
He told the Commissioner that most of the beggars are from Kano state while some are from Sokoto state.
Ibrahim appealed to the state government to assist beggars with transportation logistics as they are willing to return to their respective states.
The Commissioner assured the beggars that Kogi state government is committed to find possible solutions to all their requests before been evacuated.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Buba continued the sensitization exercise in preparing street beggars for evacuation.
The Commissioner, joined by the Assistant Director Social Welfare of the Ministry visited some of the strategic places where beggars are usually sighted – Paparanda Square, Old Market and Post Office areas of Lokoja.
