The Kogi Government has warned that ‘no Junior student would henceforth be admitted into any Senior Secondary School in the state without passing the mandatory Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Mrs Rosemary Osikoya, the State’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, gave the warning in a statement issued by the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the ministry, Mr Ademu Seidu in Lokoja on Wednesday.

Osikoya said all heads of private and public schools in the State should submit the names of their prospective candidates for the forth-coming 2019 BECE to the ministry headquarter on or before Friday, March 29.

”As the conduct of 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) draws closer, Kogi Ministry of Education Science and Technology, again, wishes to remind heads of schools in the state, that BECE certificate is a mandatory criterion for every child transiting from Junior to Senior Secondary School in the state.

”Consequently, all heads of private and public schools in Kogi are hereby directed to submit names of all their prospective candidates for the forth-coming 2019 BECE examination to the ministry headquarter on or before Friday, March 29, 2019.

”This will enable the ministry to carry out proper planning and all necessary arrangements for the examination.

”Henceforth, any school that waive the mandatory criteria for admission of students into the senior secondary school would be adequately sanctioned and return the affected student back to the basic level.

”The ministry has put some stringent measures in place to forestall future occurrence of such anomaly.

”The ministry will also investigate the status of admission granted to every student into the senior secondary school level to ascertain the extent of culpability of the schools involved,” the statement said.

The commissioner, therefore, called for total compliance by all schools across the state, warning that it would no longer leave any stone unturned in its quest to enforce standard at all levels of education in the state.
