Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Arome Adoji, has described allegations of financial impropriety against him as handiwork of enemies.
In a press statement signed by the media assistant to the commissioner, Richard Olorunfemi, Arome said the the alleged funds for the state’s beach soccer team was truly approved and released to the Ministry of Sports by the Governor at a time he was Special Adviser on Sport.
As Special Adviser, Arome said he had no powers to dispense the said funds but on assumption of office as Commissioner he directed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry to release the money to the team, the directive which was transparently carried out.
“It should also be on record that the Honourable Commissioner was a pillar of support to the team, before, during and after the tournament in which the team did the state proud. He supported the team with his personal resources”, the statement read.
The Commissioner has ordered immediate probe into the allegations to ascertain the “5th columnist that instigated such laughable and unintelligent story to discredit and malign his person of Hon. Arome Adoji for reasons best known to the authors of the story”.
In the interim, the Team Captain of the Beach Soccer Team has dissociated himself and the team from the story.
