Bassa/Ibaji Support for Powershift in Kogi State

BAIBA is a Progressive Movement of Bassa and Ibaji local government areas of Kogi east perfecting moves to give block support to Kogi West and Central in producing the next governor of the state, lamenting marginilization of its people since creation of the state.

A communique after BAIBA’s maiden meeting of delegates from Bassa and Ibaji local government areas said that since the creation of Kogi State, Bassa and Ibaji has not been given opportunity of gains of democracy.

The BAIBA meeting lamented that key political appointments in the State have been denied of the people of Bassa and Ibaji since the creation of the State in 1991.

The communique signed by its Chairman and Secretary respectively said some positions and political offices are been made exclusive reserve and birth right of the Igalas, demanding for equity and justice for the people of Bassa and Ibaji.

The Resolutions includes:

“We are united by common destiny of political equity, power shift and social justice in line with the collective aspirations of our people that have been marginalized for over twenty years.

…….and;

“Since the creation of Kogi State, Bassa and Ibaji has been given the backwardness of human and capital development despite their enormous support to Igala governors;

“The meeting resolved that power shift is inevitable. Saying that, we are tired and should now try the other way as long as the west and central would accept our Charter of Demands”

The group also resolved that a meeting with traditional rulers, political leaders, women groups, youth groups and all stakeholders in Bassa and Ibaji and other ethnic minority groups to realize the power shift agenda (which has commence) should be done more.

A mother Meeting of Delegates from Bassa and Ibaji will hold on Saturday 30 May 2015 to discuss the way forward.

We welcome your advice as to choice of Gubernatorial Aspirant from either the West or Central Kogi.
