Bassa Komu-Ebira Mozum Clash: Police Step Up Security

The Kogi State Police Command yesterday said it has deployed detachment of security personnel to Bassa Local Government Area of the State to restore normalcy following yesterday’s communal clash between Ebira Mozum and Bassa Komu communities.
The crisis that broke out amongst people of the two communities allegedly left about 40 people dead while many fled their homes.
State Police Commissioner, Abdullahi Chafe, told us that his men had been on ground in the communities to keep the peace. He said that some arrests had been made and that investigations were on to unravel the cause of the clash.
The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, reacting yesterday, described the clash as unfortunate. A statement issued by his spokesman, Kingsley Fanwo, said the governor had directed the State Security Adviser, Navy Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd), to mobilize officers and men of the Operation Total Freedom to address the crisis.
