Two time basketball Olympian, Olumide Oyedeji has called on individual and corporate organizations in the country to prioritize sports development to enable youth discover their talents.
Oyedeji, who made the call yesterday at the opening ceremony of the 9th Justice Ajanah basketball competition, said sport development especially basketball is key to addressing the current unemployment in the country.
According to him, “the competition had becomes a platform through which talents can easily be discovered for international competition “
While commending Justice Nasiru Ajanah , the Chief Judge of Kogi state for giving the youth the opportunity to showcase their talents, Oyedeji called on other well meaning indigenes of the state to emulate Justice Ajanah’s effort in designing a similar programme to remove the youth from antisocial vices that are inimical to their future.
Oyedejii who was the first African basketball player to featured in virtually all basketball competition in the world, charged the participants to utilized the opportunity created for them to develop their talents to become a world class basketball players.
In his speech the administrator of Kogi local government area, Barrister Muhammed Tanko Musa, charged the players to see the competition as a source of fostering unity among the people of the state, appealing for the spirit of sportsmanship in the competition.
