Parents have been asked to place emphasis on the moral and spiritual up bringing of their children.
Yomi Awoniyi, Kogi State Deputy Governor stated this at the laying to rest, outing and thanksgiving service for Madam Rhoda Iyesamini Bodunde (nee Olikoko), held at St Paul’s Anglican Church Iyara Ijumu.
The State Deputy Governor described Mama Rhoda as a woman who taught her children and those she came across the virtues of sincerity, humility and love, said his long lasting relationship with the late Mama Rhoda while growing up taught him the need to do what is right.
Despite the decay in morals as noticed among young people, Awoniyi said the society can still be made a better place when parents stand up to their responsibilities for the proper upbringing of their children.
Awoniyi called on parents and those saddled with the upbringing of future leaders to take the task very seriously, as no amount of time, money and energy spent in bringing up children in responsible manner is to much a sacrifice.
Awoniyi called on those Mama left behind to take solace in her good works of service to humanity and the good deeds she was known for.
In his sermon, Rt Rev F Ikupolati, described spiritual training of children as the only remedy to correcting most ills in the society.
He called on parents to not only invest financially on their wards education but should equally pray for God’s intervention in their lives.
