Comrade Usman Okai Austin has emerged Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for 2023 Dekina / Bassa federal constituency.
Usman Okai Austin defeated his closet rival, former Deputy Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon Emmanuel Omebije to emerge overall winner.
Another former Deputy Speaker, Simon Atadoga came third with 11 votes, while a former House of Reps member, Positive Ihiabe polled 5 votes to come 4th.
Announcing the results at the party secretariat Dekina on Monday, the PDP’s electoral committee gave the breakdown of the results as follows:
Numbers of accredited delegates 68
Allocated Votes;
Usman Okai Austin 28 votes
Honourable Omebije 16 votes
Honourable Simon Atadoga 11votes
Honourable Positive Ihiabe 5 votes while candidates put together scored 8 votes.
Samuel Agagwu 2 votes, Ojochide Mary Odoma 0 and Anthony Gab Isah 0
Addressing press men shortly after the official announcement, Comrade Usman Okai Austin said, “it is not about my victory but a victory for the people of Dekina-Bassa”.
Okai who acknowledged his co-contestants as great leaders of the party, also called on them to put their differences aside and work towards the success of the party come 2023 election.
Meanwhile, cross section of the party faithfuls described Okai’s victory as the victory for the masses, stressing that Okai’s personality represents love, fairness, equity, acceptance and peoples’ wish.
