Hon. John Abah, representing Ibaji State Constituency, moved a motion on the floor of the Kogi State House of Assembly calling on the state government to rehabilitate the general hospital in Onyedega, with the following prayers;
1. That the Local Government Council be called upon, as part of its commitment towards health care delivery, to provide and ensure continuous maintenance of the generating sets, servicing and fuelling, and cleaning of the bushy environment around the General Hospital, Onyedega.
2. That a strongly worded resolution of this Honourable House be conveyed appealing to the State Government for intervention in the provision of a functional and well-equipped theatre.
3. That further appeal be made urging the State Government to construct additional ward to separate the male patients from the female patient chocked up in a ward, and to rehabilitate the deplorable conditions of the hospital by fixing the rooftops that are leaking and replacing the termite infested ceilings.
4. That the Ministry of Health and Social Services be requested to deploy additional medical specialists, two doctors, a pharmacist and other health officials and attendants to meet the basic standard personnel requirement of a secondary health institutions.
5. That this August Assembly do request the State Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) at the General Hospital and drill and additional one.
In a swift move, the responsive, dogged and committed Chairman House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Musa Jimoh Omiata and his committee members visited the hospital to access the dilapidated structures, staff strength and the condition of admitted patient. In his usual act of kindness he sort out the bill of the patient and wish him quick recovery.
In a related development, the committee visited the ongoing construction of Ibaji Local Government Secretariat. The Head of Department on Works of the Local Government briefed the committee on progress report and pointed out all challenges hindering the completion of the project.
The cost estimate of the project was submitted to the Chairman of the committee. The chairman promised to study same and sue for more fund to be appropriated for the project completion.
