Army Arrest Suspected Terrorist During Snap Checkpoint Operation in Kogi

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected terrorist during a snap checkpoint operation along the Lokoja–Abuja highway in Kogi state.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with a team from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, security sources said the operation was conducted at about 6:55 a.m. on May 1 at Chikara North in Kogi/Koton Karfe Local Government Area following actionable intelligence.

The sources disclosed that troops of 176 Guards Battalion mounted the checkpoint and intercepted a commercial vehicle conveying pineapples from Ughelli to Abuja.

According to the sources, preliminary investigation indicated that the driver had offered assistance to the suspect from Lokoja to Abuja during the journey.

They added that the driver and the vehicle were subsequently released after routine checks, while the suspect was taken into custody for further interrogation.

The sources said the suspect is currently undergoing profiling as investigations continue to determine possible links and affiliations.
