Iffe Ijumu community in Ijumu Local Government Area had its own unfortunate share of the unprofessional conduct within the Nigeria Police Force on Sunday, 8th March 2026, when a live tear gas canister was fired at Miss Iyabo Iwamofe inside her shop without any provocation.
The Chairman of Iffe Development Union, Lokoja Branch, expresses deep pain and concern over the severe injury, deformation, and damage done to the victim’s face as a result of this incident.
This disturbing event marks the second time that officers from the Nigeria Police Divisional Headquarters, Ekinrin-Adde, have allegedly harassed members of the Iffe Ijumu community since the division was commissioned on Wednesday, 25th June 2025.

We therefore respectfully appeal to the Kogi State Commissioner of Police to urgently investigate this case of unprofessional handling of arms that has resulted in permanent physical damage to a promising and respected member of our community, Miss Iyabo Iwamofe, who also serves as the Women Leader of APC, Iffe/Ikoyi Ward.
Iffe Ijumu is a peaceful, law-abiding, and loving community. However, we strongly reject this form of reckless use of arms and demand justice, accountability, and meaningful compensation for Miss Iyabo Iwamofe, whose life has been significantly affected by this tragic incident.
The injury has not only caused permanent damage to her face but has also deprived her of many freedoms and created deep emotional trauma in her life.
While we seek a peaceful and amicable resolution, we wish to clearly state that failure to address this matter adequately may compel us to pursue legal action against the Nigeria Police Force for the harm and deformation suffered by the victim.
We trust that the appropriate authorities will act swiftly to ensure justice is served and to prevent such incidents from occurring again in our community.
Signed:
Inutorise Bayo Joshua
Chairman, Iffe Development Union
Lokoja Branch
