APC Obliterates Opposition, Sweeps All Assembly Seats in Kogi

The All Progressives Congress in Kogi State has won all twenty two State Assembly seats declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across various local government areas of the state.

Apart from the election that was declared inconclusive in Igalamela-Odolu and Lokoja I State Constituencies and the rescheduled State Assembly election in Mopamuro State Constituency, which is ongoing as at the time of filling this report, the ruling is assured of free reign when the next Assembly is inaugurated in June.

In Kogi East, the APC won the ten State Constituencies announced so far, including Ankpa I, Ankpa II, Bassa, Dekina Okura, Dekina Biraidu, Ibaji, Idah, Ofu, Omala and Olamaboro.

In the Central Senatorial District, the party defeated all contenders in Okene I, Okene II, Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi and Ogori-Magongo State Constituencies.

It repeated same in Kogi West which includes Kabba-Bunu, Ijumu, Yagba-East, Yagba-West, Lokoja II and Kogi (Kotonkarfe) State Constituencies. Lokoja I was declared inconclusive due to cancellations in some units.

The Speaker of Kogi House of Assembly, Matthew Kolawole, has shone brightly at the polls as he was re-elected to represent Kabba/Bunu state constituency.

Mr Kolawole, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared the winner after polling 17,248 votes to beat Alfred Bello of PDP, who scored 9,337 votes, and Aiyenale Fred of ADC, who netted 2,172 votes.

The Returning Officer, Kizito Sunday, declaring the results at the INEC Collation Centre in Kabba on Sunday.

“Mathew Kolawole is therefore returned as duly elected, having scored the highest votes in the election,’’ Kizito said.

Announcing the results, the Returning Officer for Okene II Constituency, Dr Ayodele Bamidele Anthony from Federal University, Lokoja declared that Ahmed Dahiru of APC scored 12,805 votes to defeat Sanni Ogembe of the PDP who came a distance second with 3,374 votes.

Similarly, Hon. Moses Akande of the APC came out victorious for Ogori Magongo state constituency. The final results as released by INEC are as follows Akande polling 3486 votes to defeat his closest contender, the candidate of PDP, who garnered 2095 to come second.
