The Interim Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi, Alhaji Kassim Mabo, said that the party had successfully conducted its congresses in all the 21 local government councils of the state.

Mabo made the disclosure at a news conference on Sunday in Lokoja.

He said the congresses in all local government headquarters were devoid of violence.

He added that the peaceful conduct of the congresses was an indication that the party was a big family, whose major interest was to serve the country and the entire citizens.

The interim chairman said “with the successful conduct of the council congress, the party is ready to hold its state congress on April 28.’’

The member representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Buba Jibril, attributed the success to patience of members during the exercise.

Jibril said many of the 23-member local government executives were elected by consensus, adding that it was only the positions of chairman and secretary that were contested for.

He then urged the newly elected executives to provide the party with responsive and responsible leadership, noting that the major task before them was to lead the party to victory in the 2015 elections.

The newly elected Chairman of the APC in Lokoja Local Government, Alhaji Haruna Isah, thanked members of the party for the trust and confidence reposed in him and other members of the executive.

He promised to build a virile and strong APC at the local government level by running an all-inclusive administration.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the congress was held under the supervision of a team of INEC officials, led by the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Segun Agbaje. (NAN)
