The member representing Igalamela/Odolu State constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly, Elder Friday Sanni Makama, has cried out that he was still alive, following the widely speculated rumour of his death in the hands of hired assassins.

Sanni, who dispelled the rumour yesterday in Lokoja, said though attacked, he was lucky to have escaped to Abuja for treatment due to the internal injuries he sustained during the attack.

Narrating his ordeal to newsmen, Sanni said he was allegedly attacked last Saturday at Attah’s palace, Idah, in Idah local government area of the state, where he had gone to pay homage to the Attah of Igala land, HRM, Ameh Oboni (11), by hoodlums loyal to All Progressives Congress, APC, and noted that he was able to escape by divine intervention.

He said: “I was at the attah’s palace with my colleague from Idah, Elder Ekwubile, to pay homage and I later donated N300, 000 for the completion of some project in the palace. There, the Attah blessed me and proclaimed that no weapon used against me will pierce my body.

“As if he knew that I will be attacked, a few minutes later, some hoodlums who I know is a political party flagbearer entered the palace and attacked me with cutlasses, axe and other weapons. I was taken to Abuja where it was revealed that I sustained internal injuries.

“I was surprised today (yesterday) to wake up and heard that some people were celebrating and jubilating that I have been killed by the assassins.

“I want to say that I’m not dead, I’m hale and hearty because no weapon fashioned against me as a child of God will prosper!”.

But APC flagbearer for the November 21, governorship election, Prince Abubakar Audu, in a swift reaction, said the lawmaker should be questioned for the attack

“As far as I’m concerned, all I heard is that political thugs attacked him (Sani). He should be questioned about what relationship he had with the thugs before he was attacked by them,” Audu said.

Sanni alleged that the attack was masterminded by a rival political party which felt he was a threat to their candidate winning the election.

“Uptill now, neither the police nor the SSS have taken any step to address the attempt on my life, even after series of letters from the Attah and the Senior Special Assistant to Idah Local Government. I also learned that those initially arrested have been released by the Idah DPO.

“I’m not surprise that the DSS has taken a biased stance because the person involved was a rival party candidate, after all,” he said.

He, however, said he had to cry out because the gunmen were still after his life.

Sanni said: “I have been cut off from my families, my father was already crying because he thought I was dead. I know some people have been lodged in some hotels across the state to assassinate me; I also know that some hoodlums have been sent out to monitor me, for now I cannot sleep at home.”
