The Member representing Lokoja I Sate Constituency, Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam, who a month ago resigned as the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly has been honoured by the Sports Viewing Centers Association of Kogi State.

The Executives of the Association, led by its Chairman, Mall. Mohammed Danladi Suleiman, conveyed the Association’s message of the conferment of the award of Excellence on Rt. Hon. Imam, in recognition of his contribution to sports and youth development in Kogi State, to him today (Tuesday), at his G.R.A home.

The former speaker thanked them for recognizing and considering him worthy of the award especially when it is not political.

He said whatever he has done so far and still doing is exactly how he feels politics should be practiced.

According to him “If we found ourselves in any capacity, we should be driven by the provision of service to the people”.

He commended them for contributing immensely to the socio-economic and political growth of the State especially given the strength of their membership and the engagement of able youth in meaningful and productive ventures saying “If you don’t engage the minds of the youth, they can think wildly”.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Association, while appreciating his maturity in saving the State another round of crisis for resigning when he did, eulogized Rt. Hon. Imam’s immense contribution to the growth and development of sports and youth in Kogi State, hence, the award, which he said, is merited.

He said the objective of the award, which is only conferred on those that have contributed to the development of sports in the State, is to spur the award recipients to do more and remain consistent in whatever they are already doing.

The Sport Viewing Centers Association of Kogi State was founded in year 2008 with about 42 viewing centers as members. The membership has grown today to over 100 centers with each having over 100 viewers and 2 or 3 employed viewing centre service providers each, thereby making them employers of labour too.

Among the recent award recipients of the Association is Alh. Ahmed Yusuf (Fresh) of Confederation of African Football (CAF).
