There is always something fantastic to say or write about Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari whose official engagements, professional conducts and security wizardry have continued to earn the Nigeria Police Force immeasurable recognition and immense goodwill within and outside Nigeria.
DCP Kyari has proven to be a dutiful, professional, courageous and fearless officer whose style of policing has become a ready-made template for assessing or measuring the effectiveness of security personnel across all security services.
The Borno-born super cop appears the most talked about and admired policeman given the enormous passion he invests into whatever he does. To law abiding Nigerians, DCP Kyari is the messiah sent by God to guarantee their safety and security. To dissidents and social deviants, Kyari is a nightmare that they dread to hear his name.
He does his job with relative ease that many often wonder if he was trained outside the shores of Nigeria.
I have encountered him a couple of times while on duty. He pays attention to details and never in a hurry to conclude on issues without looking at them from diverse perspectives. DCP Kyari is an astute manager of both human and material resources. The way and manner he interacts with his subordinates while on duty underscores the high premium he places on them. Not given to talking down on his lieutenants.
Given the almost seamless or unofficial manner he relates with his “boys” one wonders if he ever reprimand them when they err. I can attest to the fact that we need more of Abba Kyaris to fully sanitize the police force and restore its lost glory.
DCP Kyari came to the national scene at a time that Kidnapping almost assumed a life of its own with no clear-cut solution on how to tackle it in sight. Then, the news media was always awash with stories of kidnapping incidences involving prominent individuals and ordinary Nigerians. It was a completely messy and hopeless situation until a certain Abba Kyari stepped in.
It is to the credit of DCP Kyari and his lieutenants that high profile kidnappers like Evans Chukwudumeme, Godogodo, E-money, Osisikankwu and others have met their waterloo.
At a point when the Abuja-Kaduna Federal highway was almost taken over by kidnappers and robbers, DCP Kyari practically relocated to the area where he led several operations which led to the arrests of hundreds of kidnappers.
His daring and exemplary feats in combating crime account for why individuals and corporate bodies keep ‘chasing’ him with awards. Indeed, the latest award presented to him by the Silverbird’s Group is in recognition of his selfless service to humanity. He clearly understands the fact that each recognition comes with enormous expectations and the need to do more.
I heartily rejoice with you on this well deserved honour and recognition. May this award spur you to do more for mankind.
