The President General, Okun Development Association (ODA), Ambassador Rotimi Akenson, has enjoined the newly constituted members of association’s National Executive Committee to be ready for strategic restructuring in the association, that would make it more people centred and development focused.
Ambassador Akenson, who gave the charge at the maiden meeting of the executive committee last week, after the 2024 General Congress, also pledged to work for the overall development of Okunland.
The ODA members at the meeting collectively regretted the dearth of infrastructure in Okunland while stressing what they called urgent need to partner with relevant institutions and individuals to ameliorate the situation, especially as it affected the people and environment.
The new executive committee also resolved to write to, and also embark on courtesy visits to some Okun sons and daughters across Nigeria and beyond who contributed to the successful hosting of the latest NEC meeting with a view to intimating them on development programmes of the new ODA administration that are designed to foster unity among the people.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Akenson has promised to prioritise women and youth development programmes in the coming years, even as he urged members of the Association at large, to be more committed with prompt payment of dues and support for projects.
The executive, promised to encourage the creation of additional branches for the association, especially in the diaspora to enable Okun indigenes around the world contribute meaningfully to the development of Okunland.
Hon. Bolanle Bolasaiye, Barrister Femi Oloruntoba, Hon. Dayo Akanmode, Hon. Musa Bakare, Adoga Jubril, Toyin George and the association’s National Publicity Secretary, Pastor Dayo Thomas, attended the maiden meeting that was presided by Ambassador Akenson.
