The Kogi Central senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alh Yakubu Oseni (AYO) has dispelled the rumour on the proposed sale of Ajaokuta Steel plant.
Oseni, while responding to questions from newsmen recently in his Lokoja residence, stated that the clarification on rumoured sale became necessary on the heels of the speculation that the CBN Governor was reported in some dailies that Ajaokuta steel has been slated for sale to raise fund for 2018 Budget.
“Thanks to the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who cleared the air on the sale of Ajaokuta steel project. The current Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammad Buhari and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is focused and purposeful. They know that the steel plant is the bedrock for the development of any nation. They have since ordered for commencement of discussion with the original builder, TPE.
“If anybody has fed the public with something else, treat it as a rumour. I am assuring the people of Kogi Central that the Ajaokuta project is part and parcel of Mr President’s second term project,” he said.
According to Oseni, if and when eventually voted in to represent Kogi Central in the Senate, himself and other Senators from Kogi State will stand together to mobilize all the Senators from the north to see the Ajaokuta steel plant as a northern project.
He posited that there is nothing an individual or a senator representing the zone can do on his or her own because Ajaokuta steel is a Federal government project.
The APC flag bearer commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his relentless efforts aimed at resuscitating Ajaokuta steel plant.
