The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered a significant blow again as several of its critical grassroots leaders formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Among the prominent defectors is Hon. Ahmed Rose Mary, the overall Women Leader of the PDP in Ajaokuta Local Government, as well as Hon. Hajara Sanni, Mr Ochepe, the PDP Youth Leader in Patesi Abodu Ward, and respected PDP chieftain, Hon. Ogirima Shehu. They were joined by a number of other party stalwarts who have now pledged their allegiance to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Rose Mary expressed deep dissatisfaction with the direction of the PDP, stating that the party has lost its ideological footing.

“Our experiences have been nothing short of disheartening, filled with unfulfilled promises and internal deception. We are impressed with the leadership of Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem and the APC-led administration in Kogi State under the dynamic leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo,” she said.
She further pledged the group’s commitment to the APC’s success and vowed to mobilize more supporters into the party fold.
Receiving the defectors, Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, who is the Ajaokuta federal lawmaker and apex leader of APC in Ajaokuta, welcomed them warmly. He assured the new members that the APC is a progressive, people-oriented party that prioritizes inclusion and development at all levels.
“The APC from federal to local government remains committed to delivering real dividends of democracy. We urge you to fully integrate and bring more former PDP members into the light of purposeful governance under the leadership of Gov Ahmed Usman Ododo,” he stated.
The event, which took the form of an indoor strategy meeting, was attended by key political figures and stakeholders across Ajaokuta Local Government.
Also present were appointees of Governor Ahmed Ododo and the Ajaokuta APC Party Chairman.
