Mr Muhammed Haruna, a community leader in Ganaja, Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi State, said on Wednesday that his people have asked him to contest the State House of Assembly seat in 2019.
“My people want me to represent them at the Kogi State House of Assembly in 2019; they want me to contest the Ajaokuta Constituency seat and I have heeded their call,” he said in Lokoja.
Haruna spoke at a ceremony organized by a political group, Ajaokuta United Groups for Haruna 2019, to honour him.
The community leader said that he would always abide by the wishes of his people, promising to always work according to the desires and wishes of the youths.
“I am for the youths and will never disappoint them; I will always serve them and listen to them,” he said.
He pledged to shore up the living conditions of his people through quality legislation that could enhance good governance, noting that quality legislation was key to transforming the society.
“Good legislation can enhance the fortunes of the people because quality laws can facilitate projects that will create wealth and employment,” he said.
He promised to attract projects to Ajaokuta Constituency by working in harmony with the executive, and urged the people to feel free to offer suggestions that could assist that quest.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mr Sumaila Abdullahi, in a remark, said that it was the turn of Geregu Ward to produce the member to represent Ajaokuta Constituency, and advised the incumbent against seeking a return in 2019.
“Going by our political arrangement, the incumbent, who is from Egayin Ward, should rather contest for the council chairman because that is Egayin’s rightful slot,” he said.
Mrs. Mariam Momoh, a special guest, commended the youths for honouring the community leader, saying that it was “a clear demonstration of love”.
She applauded Haruna for his exemplary leadership in Ganaja community. “You have done well in the community and can be trusted to move to the next level,” she said.
