African Union Agency Appoints Amb. Rufus Aiyenigba Deputy Country Director

Democracy for Africa Programming (DfPA), a social development agency of the African Union (AU), with its headquarters in Kigali, Rwanda, has appointed Kogi-born Ambassador Rufus B. Aiyenigba as Deputy Country Director in Nigeria.

His appointment letter dated September 17, 2021 was signed by the Country Director, Dr. Benedict Bem Kokoiwen.

As Deputy Country Director, Ambassador Aiyenigba will assist the Country Director in delivering on the mandate of the agency in Nigeria in the area of administration and other special responsibilities.

Ambassador Aiyenigba, who was awarded the Ambassador for Peace (AFP) honour in 2006 by Universal Federation for World Peace, is a social development consultant, writer, public affairs analyst and trained arbitrator. He brings to his new job, wealth of experience which spans about two decades of active engagements in the Nigerian third sector, where he has served variously among other positions, as convener, co-convener, secretary and technical consultant to a number of NGOs, national CSO coalitions and networks promoting participatory democracy, good governance, human rights, social inclusion and sustainable development.

He is currently the National Publicity Secretary of the Social Democratic party (SDP) and Chairman, Conference of Spokespersons of Political Parties in Nigeria (CSPPaN).

The appointment takes immediate effect.
