Chairman, Kogi State Agency for Adult and Non Formal Education Board, Alhaji Sani Ogu has said that adult and youth literacy level in the state stands at 56 per cent, lamenting that it is below the national level.
Alhaji Sani, who spoke in Lokoja at a training for facilitators on revitalizing adult and youth literacy in Nigeria, said though the 56 per cent is below the national level of 62 per cent, it is still the highest in the Northern region.
He said in its bid to reduce illiteracy to the barest minimum, Governor Idris Wada has completed arrangements to increase literacy centres from 100 to 300, while the allowance for instructors has been increased from N3,000 to N7,500 monthly.
