In a significant community development intervention aimed at improving public lighting and addressing infrastructure challenges, QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman, FNIQS, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Kogi East in the 2027 general elections, has donated 80 solar-powered streetlighting units, including poles and associated components, to Ankpa local government.
The donation, delivered on Thursday forms part of Suleiman’s broader commitment to supporting sustainable energy solutions and responding to the infrastructure needs of communities across Kogi East.
Community Leaders Receive Solar Lighting Materials

Receiving the consignment on behalf of the community was Hon. Isa Abdul, former Chairman of Ankpa Local Government Council (2013–2016) and a respected political and community leader from Enjema.
The delivery was witnessed by prominent stakeholders and members of the Kogi East ADC Campaign Council, including its Director-General, Hon. Faruk Akunu Yahaya; Chairman of Contact and Mobilisation, Hon. A.Y. Baba; Deputy Chairman, Hon. Ohiemi Zekeri; and the official responsible for Events and Protocol, Hon. Ibrahim Ahmed.
Also present were Hon. Suleiman Umoru, ADC State House of Assembly candidate for Ankpa II Constituency; Hon. Orlando; Hon. Yunusa Ejegbo; and other stakeholders who witnessed the presentation.

Addressing a Pressing Infrastructure Challenge
For communities experiencing inadequate public lighting and persistent electricity supply challenges, solar-powered streetlights offer a practical supplementary solution.
When properly installed and maintained, the facilities can improve nighttime visibility, support commercial activities after dark and contribute to safer movement along roads and public spaces.
The initiative comes amid growing public expectations concerning electricity infrastructure in Ankpa and its surrounding communities.
Although recent political discussions have featured competing commitments to improving electricity access, Suleiman’s intervention provides a tangible contribution to the constituency’s immediate public-lighting needs.
The donation also reflects his professional background in infrastructure development, project management and the electricity sector.
Beyond the current consignment, Suleiman has indicated his intention to pursue further interventions addressing electricity challenges within Ankpa local government and other underserved communities in Kogi East.
Hon. Isa Abdul Commends Gesture, Calls for Sustained Commitment
Delivering the closing remarks, Hon. Isa Abdul welcomed the donation and commended QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman for demonstrating a practical interest in community infrastructure.
He described Suleiman as an infrastructure-oriented individual whose professional background and demonstrated commitment to project delivery provide grounds for confidence in his development intentions.
The former council chairman particularly encouraged Suleiman to follow through on the initiative and sustain his commitment to addressing the LGA’s electricity challenges.
His remarks underscored the importance of translating goodwill into lasting community benefits through proper implementation, continuity and responsiveness to local needs.
Beyond Donation: The Importance of Sustainable Delivery
While the delivery of 80 solar streetlighting units represents an important first step, the long-term value of the intervention will depend on their appropriate distribution, installation, commissioning and maintenance.
The initiative provides an opportunity for collaboration with community stakeholders in identifying priority locations and establishing arrangements to safeguard the equipment.
For Ankpa local government, the central expectation remains that the donated facilities will translate into functioning streetlights serving communities where they are most needed.
The October 22 presentation therefore represents both an immediate contribution to public infrastructure and the beginning of a broader commitment that will ultimately be assessed by its implementation and sustained benefits.
The AAS Campaign Organisation has indicated that further community-focused infrastructure interventions are envisaged as part of Suleiman’s continuing engagement across Kogi East.
