Adavi LG Chairman Presents N2,445b 2022 Budget of Hope to Legislative Council for Approval

Executive Chairman of Adavi local government area of Kogi State, Hon. Joseph Omuya Salami, on Thursday, presented a total budget estimate of N2.445 billion to the legislative council for approval.

The 2022 budget estimate was divided into recurrent expenditure of N1,586,935,720 and capital expenditure of N858,263,100.

While presenting the budget to the legislative council of Adavi LGA, Salami said the proposed budget was designed in compliance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) to always subject council’s programmes and activities to the scrutiny of the legislative arm for good checks and balances between the two arms of government.

He stated that Adavi was among the leading LGAs in terms of fulfilling recurrent expenditure obligations during the 2021 fiscal year which took up a large chunk to the total revenue accruable to the local government.

Salami said despite the financial challenges, the council was able to purchase tractor and agricultural equipment, purchase and distribute educational materials, purchase drugs and medical equipment, rehabilitate some roads across the local government. 

“The Honorable Leader, and Principal Officers and Council Members, you will agree with me that budgeting is a global functions of any democratic government, which His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello has ensured across Local Government Areas of our dear state. The task of good governance are enormous, in this vein, they are surmountable with your harmonious working relationship, support and understanding as well as team spirit. Lets us look at the appraisal of the year 2021 budget.

“The 2022 budget estimate christened ‘Budget of Hope’ is the first to be handled wholly by this administration. On this note, I hereby present before this hallowed chamber a total budget package of Two Billion, Four Hundred and Forty-Five Million, One Hundred and Ninety-Eight Thousand, Eight Hundred and Twenty Naira only (N2,445,198,820) for the period of January 1st to  December 31st, 2022.

“It should be noted that there should be genuine need for leadership of the two arms of government to work closely to attain our desired goals in service to humanity. This is the time for prudence and the elimination of leakages. Therefore, transparency, objectivity and accountability should be our watchwords. 

“Distinguished Honourable members, ladies and gentlemen, the call for greater understanding and harmonious working relationship is apt here. I hereby solicit for accelerated consideration and passage of this all important budget estimates for more progress and development of our land,” he said.

He assured that the budget will focus on results that will be of benefits to the people of Adavi local government, noting that the budget has inbuilt mechanisms to enhance implementation.
