Activista in Kogi Demands Probe of Nigerians Implicated in Panamapapers

ACTIVISTA, the youth group with the objective of mobilizing their fellow youths towards the eradication poverty, has demanded that Nigerian Federal Government investigates and prosecutes those indicted in the recent panama paper revelations.

The state coordinator of the group, Abakpa Jonathan, stressed this in an exclusive interview with our reporter in Lokoja during the celebration of this year’s May Day Celebration held at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium.

Jonathan, who described the Nigerian Labour force as a group who have always paid their own fair share in the nation’s tax regime, re-echoed the group’s nationwide theme for the day, ‘Tax Justice’, stressed that the panama papers situation should not go the way of the Halliburton Scandal, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to show a political will to do needful on the matter.

He elaborated on this better when he said: “The issue of tax justice is so central to Activista on this year’s Workers’ Day Celebration that we are calling on government to probe those indicted in the panama leaks saga because these resources tied up controversy can assist in the provision of essential services for the citizens if recouped.”

The coordinator, who bemoaned the hardships being experienced by the ordinary citizens through the insensitivities of the elite, stated that it was time for government to ensure that they enjoy the confidence people by ensuring that they bring those accused of wrongdoings to justice.

Jonathan praised the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government in fighting corruption and indiscipline in public service and called on Nigerian youths to give their unalloyed support in the anti-corruption crusade.

He praised the Kogi State governor’s call on the leadership of Kogi State University cell of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to suspend their industrial action, so that students of the institution can conclude their semester in good time.
