The Traditional Ruler of Apaa-Bunu in Kabba-Bunu local government area of Kogi State, Oba Adebisi Obademi, who was abducted by gunmen last week has been released.

According to a source close to the family of the monarch, Oba Obademi was released over the weekend after paying a ransom of N300, 000.

The Monarch was abducted at about 7.30 am on Wednesday, September 30, while on his way to Odo-Ape, a suburb community close to his domain.

Reports have it that the gunmen numbering about five and suspected to be Fulani herdsmen may have whisked the traditional ruler away on a motorbike to an unknown destination where he is said to have spent four days before he was released.

The family source – who said the family members of the Monarch faced “serious trauma” during the course of his incarceration – said the kidnappers initially demanded two Million Naira before he could be released.

He said the family had to plead with the abductors who later agreed to a ransom of N300, 000 before the monarch was eventually released at 7.00 pm Saturday night at the exact spot from where he was abducted.

According to our source, the whole community had to make donations to the family to effect the monarch’s release “because we are poor rural folk who have been forgotten by government.”

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the sleepy community erupted into celebration on sighting the monarch who was said to be apparently dizzy and worn out.
