We are aware that you will this morning inaugurate the newly constituted SIEC/Electoral Officers that have card carrying PDP members and former Councillors that served on the platform of PDP against the rule on it. A case in question is the two appointed from Ijumu LGA, especially the Assistant Electoral Officer in person of Hon. Abimbola Aremu
Aremu is a former councillor that served on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ijumu Local Government Council from 2004 to 2007. He also served as Supervisory Councillor during the administration of the immediate past Ijumu Local Government Council Chairman.
We therefore vehemently register our honest displeasure and strong disapproval of this illegality which may jeopardize the smooth conduct of the forthcoming Local Government Election and further deprive our people their well deserving democratic dividends and resources.
We hope the SIEC Chairman will heed our candid advice and see reasons for normalcy. The case of some members of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission that aspired for one office or the other sometime ago on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party is still fresh in our memory. We may be forced to take legal action to challenge the integrity of Kogi State SIEC if replacements are not made for those affected.
We sincerely implore you to give a level playing ground for all parties by appointing non partisan officers to handle such sensitive assignments. Doing that will save you and your commission the embarrassment and unending legal battles that will make it impossible for you to operate as chairman of this strategic commission.
