The House of Representatives has considered for second reading a bill for an act to amend the Federal Medical Centre Act 2022 to establish Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Isanlu, in Yagba East local government area of Kogi State.
The bill, sponsored by the lawmaker representing Yagb East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency, Hon. Leke Abejide, aims to establish the Federal Medical Centre in Isanlu under the Federal Medical Centres Act.
Abejide led the debate on the Bill for the second time. The bill was first read for the first time on Wednesday 5th February, 2025.
This bill, according to the lawmaker, will herald a new chapter for the people of Yagba, promising to bring world-class healthcare infrastructure and services closer to their doorstep.
“Mr Speaker, Honourable Colleagues, permit me to lead the debate on the general principles of A Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Medical Centre No.33, 2022.
“This bill seeks to Amend the Federal Medical Centre Act No.33, 2022 to Establish a new Federal Medical Centre in Isanlu Yagba East, Kogi State, the medical centre when Established will have a profound impact on the lives of millions of people within the constituency and beyond as Yagba is not currently served by any Federal Medical Centre.
“The establishment will tackle the immediate health issues, many residents are forced to travel long distance for quality healthcare. The amendment is long overdue as it seeks to address the healthcare disparities around the communities by providing access to specialised and adequate health services and improving health outcome,” Abejide said.
Hon. Leke Abejide further outlined that the new medical centre will provide quality healthcare services to the people of Isanlu and other surrounding regions, creating job opportunities and stimulate economic growth.
He urged members to support the bill, which will contribute significantly to the well-being of citizens and the development of the nation.
