LG Chairman Intervenes in Dangote Cement Face-Off With Host Communities, Seeks Compensation for Deceased, Injured Residents

Chairman, Lokoja local government council, Kogi State, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, has called on Dangote Cement company to compensate the families of the deceased resident and those who sustained varying degrees of injury during a recent fracas in the plant’s host community.

The council chairman made the call while interfacing with the youth of host community at a meeting to resolve the cold war between Obajana communities and representatives of the Dangote Cement Plant in Lokoja on Thursday.

He charged youth in the council area to be peaceful, law-abiding and engage in constructive dialogue while pursuing their legitimate rights.

The Chairman had earlier visited the Communities on the 23rd December, 2024 to restore normalcy and condoled the communities over the death of one of the residents following a fracas between the plant and their hosts to forestall an impending crisis.

He condemned the violence unleashed on the area which led to the killing of one of the residents, noting that no responsible government would fold its arms and watch the breakdown of law and order in its domain.

He appealed to the warring parties to sheath their swords and embrace peaceful dialogue for harmonious coexistence, and charged Youths of the Communities to sustain the peace being enjoyed by the people of Lokoja LG and allow wisdom, logic and reasoning to prevail.

Comrade Adamu directed the traditional rulers in the area to work together, engage the management of the plant in meaningful roundtable discussions and agree on the terms for compensation.

He assured the communities of the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo-led administration’s commitment to the safety of lives and property as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He thappealed to all the warring parties to join hands with Governor Ododo to maintain peace and allow for peaceful resolution.

Present at the meeting were Oba (Engr) (Dr) Idowu J. P Isenibi, Bajana Of Obajana; Oba Amb. (Dr.) Fredrick Durojaiye Balogun JP, The Olu Of Apata-Ipatun Oworo, Olu Apata; Chief Ademola A, General Manager Special Duties/Community Affairs and other stakeholders.
