Barring any last minutes change, Kogi State contingents may not be participating in the 8th edition of the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

This is as athletes are appealing to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to immediately swing into action to avoid Kogi State athlete’s from missing out in this year event.

Speaking to our correspondent on Friday, some of the State contingents who craved anonymity because they were not authorized to speak, noted that the hope of participating in the National Zonal Preliminaries slated for Sunday 11th to Thursday 15th August, 2024 is gradually fading away.

“Barely a month to go for the National Youth Games proper in Asaba, there is no sign we are participating. The national zonal preliminaries is already knocking on our door, unfortunately nothing is being done for us to go and participate.

“It is unfortunate that we like doing things using fire brigade approach. We are young athletes who want to make Kogi State proud. All we are saying is that the Government should hasten up by providing the needed resources for us to participate in the national zonal preliminaries.

“It will be an embarrassment to our dear State if at the end, other State are represented while Kogi State is excluded. Kogi State has talented Youths who are ready to win laurels. While we acknowledged that Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is a listening, and sport friendly Governor, he should urgently look into our plight as Kogi Team Sports are ready for the preliminaries. As all other States are battle ready for the qualifying series, Kogi State should not be left out”.

The 8th edition of the National Youth Games is expected to kickoff between 9th September to 21st September, 2024, in Asaba, Delta State.
