The Elulu of Mopa, (Oba) Dr. Muyiwa Ibeun has inaugurated 90 students in Mopamuro for scholarship under the Mopa Traditional Council Scholarship Scheme (MTCSS).
Oba Ibeun, who doubles as the Chairman, Mopamuro Local Government Area Traditional Council inaugarated the students in Mopa, Mopamuro LGA on Saturday.
The scheme which was coordinated by the Elulu Policy and Project Implementation Committee (EPPIC) executed in partnership with Mopa Students Union has 90 Students enrolled for the scholarship.
During the inaugaration, Oba Ibeun said the scholarship was established to really impact in the life of young persons. He said it is not just about the scholarship, it is about monitoring each students by their academic performance cum other social conducts, ensure that they are supported into becoming an asset for themselves, family and community.
“All students will be monitored and they shall be supported into greater opportunities in life, we urge you all to make the best of this opportunity”.
Oba Ibeun said it is a full scholarship and empowerment scheme that will ensure the beneficiaries are mentored and monitored until they their respective independence.
He mentioned that 57 persons passed the screening test and they will be on scholarship for 3 years to earn their A Level, add that other 33 will be considered for Scholarship on Probation for 1year, said their academic performance will determine if they will be considered for the subsequent years.
Present at the occasion, a former Governor of Kogi State, Rt. Hon. Clarence Olafemi during his opening speech appreciated Mopa Traditional Council under the leadership of Oba Ibeun for giving the beneficiaries opportunity of an assured future.
Testifying about his life, Olafemi said he is a product of free education cum scholarship.
Olafemi who is also the Balogun of Mopa asked the students to pay attention to their academics and not distractions. He emphasized that paying attention as a student helped him throughout his days as a mathematical science student in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and that helped him to graduate with first class honors.
Continuing, he said free education and scholarship with the grace of God helped him to become who he is today. He urged them not to take the opportunity for granted.
While introducing Royal Highness and Chiefs on seat, the Oba of Okeguru, His Royal Highness Olushola Agbaje Williams said all the Chiefs on seat are product of sound education, emphasized that they have an opportunity to get scholarship in a science, technical and education institution which is the future of the world.
The Provost of the college, Mrs. Victoria Jagboro who was represented by her Deputy, Mr. Odoma Micheal Ojodale said there are plans in pipeline for the institution to be awarding Bachelors Degree. She said students who are serious with their education will have the opportunity to earn not only A Level Certificate, but Bachelors Degree.
She said the opportunity they have with the Mopa Traditional Council Scholarship Scheme is rare, adddd that such can only happy through rare Obas like Oba (Dr.) Muyiwa Ibeun. She promised that the students will have the best education in the institution, asked them to resume quickly on Wednesday, 18th of June.
The Provost laud Oba Ibeun for making effort to transform Mopa. She said the steps taken by Oba Ibeun will develop Mopa in all fronts as it majors on Human Capital Development, and establishment of Higher Institution which is a major factor for the development of any community.
The students who were screened on examination were represented by Bunmi Oshamoto, the best student of the excercise. She appreciated MTC and Oba Ibeun for the Scholarship Scheme, promised that she and her colleagues will not disappoint them.
Anchoring the ceremony, Mr. Oluwasegun Abereoran said millions of young persons are looking for the same opportunity they have on a platter of gold, urges them to make the best of it.
Representing the parents, and guardian of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Olaosebikan Anjorin appreciate MTC for the gesture, added that it is a big relief for the parents.
Other Chiefs of the Traditional Council and dignitaries who attended the program are Otunba of Mopa, His Royal Highness Saul Olojo; Oba of Odole, His Royal Highness Bayo James; Oba of Ikeji, His Royal Highness, Toba Faromo and Baale of Ikeji, Chief (Hon.) Shola Mofobi.
