Kogi State Football Association have wished goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke the best of luck as he embarked on the journey with the Super Eagles to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations slated for Cote d’Ivoire.
In a statement signed by the Chairman, Mallam Hassan Wada, the FA attributed the inclusion
Ojo Olorunleke in Jose Peseiro’s 25-man squad heading for Cote d’Ivoire for the competition to his perseverance, determination, doggedness and hard work.
“He is the only local player listed in the final 25-man squad by the Portuguese coach because has worked absolutely hard for this and his resilience and determination to succeed have worked magic in his impressive career.
“From manning the sticks for the Peoples Elephants of Aba, the reigning Nigeria Premier Football League champion, to the biggest stage on the continent with Nigeria Super Eagles for the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, the former U-20 International has gradually move up the ladder to the pinnacle of his career.
“On behalf of the Kogi State Football Association and the teeming soccer loving Kogites, we wish Olorunleke Ojo and the entire Nigerian contingent to the biggest soccer fiesta on the African continent an impressive and successful outing,” he said.
The Super Eagles began preparation for the competition in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on January 2, 2024 and will fly back to Lagos on Tuesday, January 9, and then travel to Abidjan, the Ivorian capital, on Wednesday, January 10, to begin their quest for a fourth AFCON title after winning the biennial soccer tournament first on home soil in 1980.
