A non-governmental organization, Doyin and Suzan Foundation, has distributed foodstuff to over 350 indigent women in some communities in Isanlu Yagba East Local Government Areas of Kogi State.
The Executive Director of the foundation, Chief Mrs Adedoyin Ibikunle-Eshanumi, disclosed this at the distribution venue on Thursday in Isanlu,
She said the gesture was part of the foundation’s humanitarian activities to reach out to the less privilege citizens during festive season and put smile on their faces.
Ibikunle-Eshanumi explained that the organisation had made it a routine humanitarian program to cushion the current economic hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.
“Our foundation distributes food items and other relief items to over 500 vulnerable women in October, and now we are donating foodstuff to over 350 women in this festive season.
“We also empowered over 400 vulnerable citizens during Easter celebration in April and 300 women immediately after the removal of fuel subsidy in June.
”The gesture is part of our foundation’s vision to empower the less privilege in the society and alleviate their sufferings.
“The empowerment of women, including widows is a critical factor in the eradication of poverty and are integral part of the society.
“We will continue to do that as part of our humanitarian services,” she said.
The executive director urged well meaning individuals, NGOs and corporate organisations to always support the less privileged in the society, saying the government cannot do it alone.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Hannah John, and Mrs Mariam Adebisi, who are widows, expressed their gratitude to the foundation for putting smile on their faces during the festivities.
“We appreciate Chief Adedoyin and her foundation for always assisting the poor women especially the widows in the society. May God bless and protect her,” Adebisi said.
Items distributed include rice and some food ingredients.
