Provost Task Students on Excellence as College of Health Sciences and Technology Idah Matriculates 500

The Provost College of Health Sciences and Technology Idah, Dr. Nuhu Solomon Anyegwu, has charged the management staff and students of the institution to imbibe the daily culture and lifestyle of the academic to achieve continuous excellence. 

Dr. Anyegwu gave this charge on Wednesday at the 16th matriculation ceremony of newly admitted students for the 2022/2023 academic season at the convocation square.

He congratulated the students for their admissions into the college after scaling through the hurdles of the probationary period. He advised everyone to shun all forms of demeanor.

“I charge you to be of good conduct and behavior throughout your academic sojourn in this college. Besides, get hold of the student’s comprehensive handbook and strictly comply with the rules and regulations contained therein,” he admonished.

Dr. Anyegwu expressed gratitude to academic and non-academic staff of the institution for their continued support and dedication to quality training the college is known for culminating in excellent results in national examinations.

He commended Governor Yahaya Bello for prioritizing education development, being one of the thematic areas of the New Direction administration.

“The narrative of the monuments of architectural masterpieces witnessed in the college cannot be complete without heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State. The college, for the first time has many facilities built under the current administration. These facilities include; Prince Abubakar Audu Lecture Theatre Hall, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello Lecture Hall, Ultra Modern College Clinic, Dr. Michael Ameh Oboni’s Expanded Medical Laboratory, College Water Factory, construction, beautification, and digitalization of the college entrance gate, the ongoing building of three lecture halls which will be named after our present royal majesty Dr. Alhaji Mathew Oguche Akpa, as well as a 32-office administration duplex taken over by the state government at the foundation level.

“The monumental infrastructure, academic and administrative transformation carried out in the college which culminated to 100% accreditation of courses offered in the institution. This is a huge achievement.

“The intelligent guidance, robust and result-oriented policies of the governing council led by Dr. Ibrahim Yusuf are sincerely celebrated,” he said.

Highlighting challenges bedeviling the college from attaining the desired national and global competitive horizon, Anyegwu said “the college is still has nagging issues begging for intervention by individuals, corporate bodies and government of Kogi State.

“First, the non-completion of four perimeter fencing of the college leading to the intrusion of men of the underworld, particularly at this critical time of our national life. Second, the need to complete the 1000-seating capacity lecture theatre for the conduct of national examination to enable us to introduce more courses for effective primary healthcare delivery system in Kogi State.

“You can imagine, this college can offer 50 courses but at the moment we have only ten existing courses,” Anyegwu said.

He also expressed worry over the non-enlistment of the college under the TETFUND beneficiary institutions list and the dilapidated road network as well as landscaping of the internal roads of the college.

“I am aware His Excellency, our education-friendly Governor, has graciously granted the approval alongside with State Executive Council for the construction of the road,” he added.

In his opening remark, Dr. Abdulraheen Yusuf, Chairman of the institution’s governing council, charged the matriculating students to be committed to their studies and be obedient to the rules and regulations of the college.

According to him, “the leadership and management led by Dr. Nuhu Solomon Anyegwu is exemplary, fruitful and result oriented. In short, the achievements of this present administration are unprecedented and are known by all. Please keep it up.”

Governor Yahaya Bello was praised for approving automatic employment of the 10 best graduating students of the college. Six of them were posted to their alma mater while the remaining four were absorbed by the Ministry of Health.

Anyegwu was honoured with the ‘World Best Provost’ award in recognition of his selfless service.

Dignitaries present at the matriculation ceremony included members of the academia, royal fathers led by the paramount ruler of Igala Kingdom, Attah Igala, HRM Dr. Matthew Alaji  Oguche, Akpa II, represented by the Eje Ibaji, Cheif  (Dr.) John Egwemi.

Chief Abel Etuh, the Etemahi of Igalaland, prayed fervently for God almighty to strengthen the management and members of staff of the college to pilot the affairs of the college to an enviable heights.

The matriculating students could not hide their excitement as they were beautifully adorned in their academic gowns in readiness to be fully ushered into the college to pursue various programs.
