The executive chairman of Adavi local government council, Joseph Omuya Salami, has expressed concern over Saturday attack on police facility in the area.
In a statement issued by Jamiu Habeeb, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Adavi LG, the council chairman commiserated with the Nigeria Police Force over the loss of three officers in the attack.
According to Jamiu, “the unknown gunmen came around few minutes after 12 midnight, engaged policemen, but were repelled by gallant officers. The council chairman rushed to the police station around about 12:45:am when the information got to him.”
Hon Salami charged Adavi citizens and residents to always assist security agencies with intelligence whenever they notice suspicious moves or see strange faces within the vicinity.
“It is a terrible situation, we must therefore join hands and cooperate with security agencies to ensure that the peace we have been enjoying is sustained. I know the effort the government of his Excellency Alh. Yahaya Bello is putting in place to free the state from all forms of criminality, and we will continue to do our best to ensure that our land is safe,” the council boss said.
Also, a statement from the state police command spokesman, SP William Aya confirmed the attack on the station located in Kogi central senatorial district.
According to him, the hoodlums attacked the station from the opposite direction shooting sporadically.
Aya said they were repelled by the men on duty and operatives of the Quick Response Unit who were on special operations at the local government.
“However, the Command lost three of its officers during the gun duel, while the hoodlums fled with gun shot wounds as they could not get access to the station,” the statement said.
He said the state Commissioner of police, Mr Edward Egbuka, has ordered immediately deployment of a team of tactical operatives to the area to restored normalcy.
He said that the hoodlums are being trailed with a view to apprehend and bring them to book.
The statement urged the people of Adavi and the adjoining communities to be on the lookout and report anybody seen with bullet wounds to the police or any other security forces nearest to them.
Egbuka also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation to commence investigation into the incident.
