WADAC: Okene LG Embarks on War Against Drug Abuse, Crimes

Okene local government council, Kogi State, has commenced the enforcement of its War Against Drug Abuse and Criminality (WADAC) initiative.

A statement issued by the Acting Chairperson of Okene local government council, Hon. Aliyu Bilkisu Avosuahi, in Okene on Wednesday said WADAC is aimed at curbing illicit drugs, its unlawful usage and marketing in Okene LGA.

She said the menace of drug abuse has become a “ravaging pandemic” in Okene.

“It is believed that the menace of drug abuse and indiscipline most often than not transcends to commission of various crimes in any society. The problem of of drug abuse in Okene local government is a ravaging epidemic that we all must rise up to address while we still have the chance to curb this menace.

“It is on this ground, we must remain up standing to do our best with what we have and with the support of state government and relevant authorities.

“The problem of drug abuse and criminality  in Okene is on its way to being under control,” she assured.

Hon. Bilkisu had called on the good people of Okene local government to adhere strictly to the laws of the land as it will only give the entire local government a peaceful co-existence.

She urged the people to give maximum support to her Special Adviser on Security, Hon. Zubair Amoka, and relevant law enforcement agencies saddled with the responsibility of enforcing the initiative.

She also charged the security agencies within Okene local government to activate an organized patrol and checks on all dealing spots and zones of unlawful substances immediately. 

The council chairperson promised to collaborate with Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to take sensitization to nooks and crannies of the local government and wage war on illicit drug users, marketers and traffickers.
