Less than two years to yet another round of elections in Nigeria and the curtain is set to draw on the representation of Honourables Ahmed Mohammed and Rabiu Alfa, members of Kogi State House of Assembly representing Ankpa 1 and Ankpa 2 state constituencies respectively.
What is the next move for these two powerful, young and energetic politicians? would they stay back in Kogi State or they would move their lawmaking career to the national level in the House of Representatives? If they are, then what would be the hope of the current House of Assembly members representing Ankpa, Omala, Olamaboro federal consistency?
The main party is yet to zone the ticket and there is no indication that APC will pick a candidate from Ankpa local government because Ankpa has completed two terms spanning eight years in Honorable Hassan Omale and current member, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims.
While in the opposition party, indications are that the party will throw the contest open to aspirants from Ankpa, Omala, and Olamaboro federal consistency.
However, it would be difficult for these two to progress their career in the All Progressives Congress come 2023 because their position has become a hot cake and nobody wants to toy with it, because they are the ruling party. It is quite obvious that Halims cannot go to Senate, he wants to maintain his position as a House of Reps beyond 2023 and the question is, would they give him the mandate again?
Rabiu Alfa and Ahmed Mohammed have huge support across the constituency and they have done a crop of good works that can earn them the position. Even at this, the House of Reps position is a tight corner.
Neither Rabiu nor Ahmed have shown an interest in the Reps seat, but as a politician who loves to pilot the affairs of their people, they have to be in power to execute their promises. It is on this background, I asked; After 2023, What next for Rabiu and Ahmed?
