- constitutes state convention committee
The leadership and stakeholders of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in the eastern senatorial district of Kogi state has insisted it is its turn to produce the next state chairman and is ready to fill the position in May when the tenure of the current leadership of Comrade Israel Alonge elapses.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the council’s stakeholders held at the Igala Unity House in Anyigba on Saturday where it called on the current state executive to commence the process of handing over the mantle of leadership as contained in the council’s constitution.
It, in furtherance to that, constituted an NYCN State Consultative Committee for the forthcoming NYCN State convention to be chaired by Comrade Emmanuel Ojoduene and Comrade Danjuma Asaka Sheidu as Secretary.
Membership of the committee include Comrades Pete Ahmodu, Isah Muhammed Ogaji, Alfa Ebune, Atabo Tijani, and Josiah Achimugu.
There three terms of reference given to the committee to include; to ensure smooth collation/screening of constitutionally qualified aspirants from the zone; to present qualified aspirants to the larger house for consideration; and to undertake any other assignments given by the zone in the course of the exercise.
The communique further applauded Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and his deputy, Chief Edward Onoja for their unalloyed support to the council, thereby making it as a “primus inter pares” in Nigeria.
It added that the zone strongly supports the presidential ambition of His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello as it also congratulated all Local Government Coordinators of NYCN on their recent appointment into various offices in the LGAs, nothing that the unity of leadership of the council within the zone and the entire state was sacrosanct.
It stressed that the tempo and impact of the council must be sustained and positively felt across the nine LGAs of the zone in particular and the state in general and that the Local Government Congress Planning Committee should immediately kick start the process for successful congress in line with the constitutional provision of the council.
The communique further read in part; “That the process of State Convention of NYCN should be commenced since the tenure of the present Executives end in May, 2021.
“That Kogi East is ever ready to step into the leadership of the council in the next dispensation in May, 2021 as constitutionally provided.
“That all youths from Kogi East should desist from any act capable of disrupting the peace and unity of the zone in particular and the state in general and that a compendium of achievements of NYCN across the nine LGAs be compiled for public presentation.”
