The Kogi State Government has said 500 youth will benefit from the pilot fishery scheme of the state.
The State Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris disclosed this while he led some state government officials on a facility tour of one of the sites at Ejiba in Yagba West local government area of the state.
According to him, the ponds are ready and will soon be allocated to hundreds of youth that have been trained.
“As you can see, we have installed a facility to produce feeds and all the ponds are ready for allocation. “The initiative is under the Accelerated Agricultural Development Scheme to ensure food security and engage our youth in productive agricultural ventures.
“The second phase of the scheme will engage over 2000 youth. Our targets are fishery and cassava production because of our comparative advantage in those areas and it is our hope that we can negotiate our way out of the economic unease foisted on the world by Covid-19”.
Asiru assured the people of the state that the Governor is not resting on his oars in his drive to use agriculture as a weapon against poverty, saying thousands of Kogites will be empowered via agriculture.
He urged the youth to seize the opportunities offered by Government via agriculture to create jobs and wealth, commending the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. David Apeh for carrying out the beautiful and robust programs of the Governor successful.
