Gov Bello, Speaker Mourns Ex-Customs Boss, Jimmy Olumudi

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has expressed sadness over the death of former Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) of Customs, Mr. Jimmy Olumudi, who passed away on Friday at his residence in Kabba

The Governor described the death of the late community leader as a big loss while he condoled with the people of Kabba and the Okun Development Association over the death of an illustrious son and leader per excellence.

This was contained in a press release signed on Friday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed.

The Governor described him as a refined public servant who brought his intellectual capacity on board while he served the nation in the capacity he did in the Customs and as a leader in his community.

While condoling with the family, the Obaro of Kabba, the Kabba community and the Okun Development Association over the loss, the governor pointed out that late Olumudi would be greatly missed but would always be remembered as a leader who in his lifetime advanced community development and impacted lives of his people even as an ordinary citizen.

Reacting to the incident, Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole described Olumudi’s death as a great loss to Kabba and Okun nation.

Kolawole, who represents Kabba-Bunu state constituency in the House, noted that Olumidu was an outstanding and accomplished Customs officer.

He said it is disheartening and painful to lose a humane political and community leader with great sense of humour and patriotism at a critical time as this when nobody is expecting it since he was not nursing any known ailment.

He said ACG Jimmy Olumudi (Rtd) was a detribalised Nigerian whose meritorious services to the nation as one of the finest officers of the Nigeria Customers Service from 70s till when he retired in the 2000s are unquantifiable, noting that Owe-Kabba kingdom has lost a great son.

He said Baba Olumudi was one of the pillars of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) in Kabba/Bunu, pointing out that his contributions to the overall success of the party in the zone cannot be over emphasized, stressing that he will be greatly missed.

Rt. Hon. Kolawole said his sudden demise is a bitter pill that is hard to swallow owing to his disposition to the development of the community as one of the giant contributors to the social economic development of Oweland.

He noted that he was able to use his opportunity then to empower the people by giving them jobs in Customs and other agencies of Governments asides numerous persons who benefitted from his magnanimous gestures of giving out cars at no cost.

He sympathized with the immediate family, the Kabba Traditional Council ably led by His Royal Majesty, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, the Obaro of Kabba and Chairman, Okun Area Traditional Council over the demise of a loving father, an illustrious son and outstanding Community leader.

He said it is very sad and painful to lose such a great man as ACG Jimmy Olumudi Rtd at a time when his words of wisdom and knowledge will be needed most, stressing that his demise has created a great vacuum that will be hard to fill.

He noted that death is an expected end of every mortal hence he enjoined his family to take solace in the words of God which say for everything under the sun there is a time; a time to be born, and time to die, stressing that Baba Olumudi has lived a fulfilled life full of positive activities.
