A Kogi State High Court sitting in Lokoja has dismissed the defamation case instituted by Kogi State Deputy Governor Edward Onoja against social crusader, Comrade Usman Okai Austin.
Justice S.O Otu ruled, on Thursday, that the matter is struck out as the claimant is not diligent enough to face his case. The judge also ruled that Onoja has no evidence against the respondent, Comrade Austin Okai.
Okai was sued for defamation of character by Onoja in 2018, who was the Chief of Staff to Governor Yahaya Bello then.
In the suit, Edward Onoja asked the court to mandate Austin Okai to pay him the sum of one hundred million Naira for alleged defamation of character. Investigation reveals that there was an existing lawsuit between Comrade Austin Okai and Kogi state government pending at the court since April 2017 over the same subject.
