Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has sent a list of his nominees as members of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) to the State Assembly.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed in Lokoja on Wednesday, Governor Bello named for Administrator of Lokoja local government council, Hon. Lawal Shiru as chairman of the commission.
Other members included Ozovehe John Enesi (Secretary), Adaji Ainoko, Musa Adama (Babakeke), Hon. Funsho Olorunfemi, Chogudo Yakubu Musa, Hon. Labaran Yahaya Oyigebe and Abdulkarim Jamiu.
According to the statement, Governor Bello has forwarded the names of the nominees to the State House of Assembly, for screening and clearance.
The Governor’s recommendation is based on section 197, sub-section 1(b) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). The responsibility of the SIEC is to conduct free, fair and credible Local Government and Council polls in the state.
