For his consistent human rights advocacy and selfless services, Kogi East Integrity Group (KEYIG) has honoured Comrade Austin Okai as the ‘Most Outstanding Personality in 2019’.
The award was presented to Okai by the leadership of the group in Abuja on Saturday.
According to KEYIG President, Muhammed Rabiu, “Okai’s unrepentant stance for good governance at all levels, particularly in states like Kogi where activities of government is seemingly not in tandem with the aspiration of the people” is worthy of commendation.
Speaker further, Rabiu said Okai, a social crusader, media influencer and blogger, was also honoured for serving as mouthpiece for the oppressed, advocating for checks and balances between the actions and inactions of people saddled with leadership positions and authority in Nigeria.
He said Okai was singled out for the group’s 2019 Most Outstanding Personality award to encourage other selfless individuals to toe the same line.
The organisers considered frequent human rights abuses against the social crusader, through frequent arrests, incarceration and court trials allegedly orchestrated by Kogi state government.
Comrade Okai, in his acceptance speech, described the award as genuine and with sincere purpose. He thanked the organisers for considering him worthy as one of their recipients at this crucial point in Kogi state and Nigeria.
“I want to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for the award you have presented to me today. Receiving this award is a great honor. It is indeed a great privilege for me to receive this particular award of “The Most Outstanding Personalty of The Year” from a respected grassroots watchdog organisation like Kogi East Youth Integrity Group (KEYIG). It makes me feel quite confident in my convictions.
“Be rest assured, I will cherish this for the rest of my life,” he said.
