Kogi-born Dr. Safiya Musa Emerges Vice President Institute of Chartered Economists

Kogi state born notable humanitarian, good governance advocate, public policy expert and banker, Dr. Safiya Stephanie Musa has been appointed as the Vice President of the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria (ICEN).

According to the body, the appointment which was approved by the governing board of ICEN is for a period of two years beginning from 1st January 2020.

The swearing in ceremony will be done early next year 2020 at the headquarters of the ICEN in Kaduna state. The appointment is coming barely a week after Safiya Stephanie Musa was awarded the prestigious First Bank Holdings maiden Humanitarian Award in recognition of her philanthropic efforts.

Dr. Safiya Stephanie Musa is a Banking professional, and an Impactpreneur with excellent track record in various spheres of endeavours. She’s a graduate of Economics from the prestigious Bayero University Kano, and has also received further education at several world class institutions, including Yale University, University of Pennsylvania, Wharton Business School, China Europe International Business School, INSEAD Business School, and the African Centre For International Criminal Justice ACICJ.

Safiya is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria (ICEN), a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (IMC), Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Member of the Project Management Institute (PMI), Fellow of the Nigerian Leadership Initiative (NLI), a Member of the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI), and a Mentor, Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP).

She has held various positions at First Bank of Nigeria Ltd, and her philosophy of an unwavering commitment to the pursuit of excellence ensured that she consistently surpassed expectations.

Safiya also has international banking experience in her former role as Chief Representative Officer for First Bank in Abu Dhabi. She was responsible for formulating the strategic leadership direction of First Bank’s growth in the UAE as a preferred trade financing vehicle between the UAE and Nigeria. In this role, Safiya managed the bank’s relationships with a broad range of stakeholders and financial regulators in the UAE.

Safiya co-founded EduShine Educational Support Foundation to assist students of public schools to maximise their educational potentials by providing extramural classes, free JAMB registration, payment of school fees, mentoring program and online-based educational resources. Through this effort, she helps promote inclusive and quality education and lifelong learning for all, thereby substantially helping to achieve the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 4.

The Foundation also provides funding to small-scale business owners. This initiative is called the ‘Power Of N50k’.

Safiya who is from Idah LGA of Kogi State, is renowned for her intellect, leadership qualities, passionate commitment to worthy causes, versatility, diligence and an impactful results-oriented approach to issues.
